Type approval services

Our testing laboratory meets the requirements for the international standard SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. This ensures that our testing laboratory carries out tests reliably and with confidentiality and high precision.

The Finnish Accreditation Service, FINAS, has granted accreditation for the testing operations of Test World, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland has designated Test World as a technical service in testing vehicles and components.

Accredited testing consists of type approval testing of vehicles and their replacement units. Testing is done according to directives set by the European Council or ECE regulations given by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

Type approval tests for studded tyres

Before new studs and studded tyre models come to the market, they must pass type approval to be allowed in traffic. The manufacturer must prove that the road wear caused by studs is at a sufficiently low level. The test method that Test World uses to measure road wear has been approved by the authorities, and manufacturers can apply for approval based on the results.

Our service includes two different tests, the stud force measurement and overrun test. These tests can both be used for applying for approval. In addition to the actual type approval measurements, we continuously do stud testing for our clients’ in-house R&D.

What does type approval testing mean in practice?

When a vehicle or a spare part fulfils the demands of the directives concerned, it guarantees that the product possesses the required basic quality and can be safely sold to the customers.

To verify this quality, an organization other than the manufacturer has to measure and otherwise confirm that the product meets the requirements set by the relevant directives or regulations.

Official approval based on the testing done by Test World Oy guarantees the product access to commercial customers as well as private consumers.
